Wastewater Reports - the Process

Once engaged, Arcadia Environmental will conduct a desktop study of your block and surrounding features, prior to a site visit. This will reveal any site constraints that may not be evident from visual inspections.

In consultation with our clients we determine:

Wastewater system type & desired tank position;

Preferred wastewater disposal location with considerations to set back distances to boundaries, sheds, granny flat addition and swimming pools, now or in the future;

Position of rainwater tank/s in-ground or above ground.

Arcadia Environmental visits your block to perform a detail site assessment. The process is as follows:

Conduct Site & Soil Analysis and, if required, a percolation testing for hydraulic conductivity;

Prepare a preliminary design and present for consideration and approval;

Complete the final design with the full wastewater report.  Arcadia Environmental can also provide forms you will require for your application to council, if the information to facilitate this is made available.  Arcadia Environmental do not lodge the applications with council (fees apply);

Final inspection to certify completed works and provision of a Form 8, if required.

Types of Land Application Area (LAA)

Initially, with Arcadia Environmental wastewater reports, the assessment will follow the same process above.  With consideration of:

  • Land surface features eg. slope, existing buildings and services, potential environmental factors and other constraints;
  • Top and subsoil classification determining soil profile and soil features within the proposed Land Application Area LAA;
  • Testing the soil permeability to determine hydraulic conductivity and to identify the correct soil category. This enables the calculation of Design Irrigation Rate (DIR) and Design Loading Rate (DLR);
  • The number of "habitable rooms" (bedrooms) of the property +/- existing dwellings (bathrooms are not relevant).

Once all the information from the desktop study and site investigation is gathered, the appropriate Land Application Area can be determined. It will be most commonly one of the following:

  • Above ground spray irrigation onto a grassed or planted mulched area (cheapest and easiest to maintain);
  • Covered surface drip irrigation into a garden bed or into a planted mulched area;
  • Shallow sub-surface pressure compensating drip irrigation under turf/existing grassed area;
  • Conventional trenches/absorption beds;
  • Self-supporting arch trench (in areas where the soil is sand);
  • Evapo-Transpiration-Absorption (ETA) beds/trenches;
  • Wisconsin Mound  - a large above ground bed used where ground water is within the absorption zone or the ground is impermeable to water/effluent.
